The Ingham County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Mid-Michigan Chapter, and the National Association of Women Judges hosted a March 8 screening of “The Judge” to coincide with International Women’s Day. The movie has been described as providing “rare insight into both Islamic law and gendered justice . . .(and) illuminates some of the universal conflicts in the domestic life of Palestine—custody of children, divorce, abuse—while offering an unvarnished look at life for women and Shari’a.” The event was held at The View in Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing.Following the movie, a panel led a discussion (l-r) Alex Rusek, Hon. Laura Baird, Cory Barkman, Ernscie Augustin, and moderator Circuit Court Judge Michelle Rick.
