The 2019 Oakland County Auction will feature a set of night vision goggles and a pair of Nikon Travelite binoculars this Saturday, May 18, in Pontiac. There's also four pairs of Cartier sunglasses and a pair of Ray Ban's available.
"Our staff does a magnificent job at hosting the Oakland County Auction," County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. "So many look forward to this annual event both for the unique items and vehicles that are available and the fun of individuals outbidding one another."
In addition to the 54 automobiles up for bid, there's a couple of 18-foot speed boats by Larson and Monterey, two 55-inch 4K smart TV's in their boxes, Polaris snowmobiles, a Kubota utility vehicle, laptops, and more.
On-site registration will begin Saturday, May 18, at 7 a.m. at the county's Vehicle Operations Building, 1200 N. Telegraph, Building 16 East, in Pontiac. The general auction gets under way at 9 a.m. followed by the vehicle auction at noon. Gates close at 3 p.m. Those who wish to inspect vehicles up for auction may do so Friday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to www.oakgov.com/auction for auction details and to register. "The annual auction is a spectator sport, even if you aren't buying, it's worth watching," said J. David VanderVeen, director of central services whose department oversees the auction.
All auction items are confiscated and recovered stolen property from local law enforcement agencies or used equipment and vehicles from the county. Last year, the auction brought in more than $600,000 which all went back to the government units which provided the auction items.
