'Pets for Vets' runs through June 15

Friends Of The Animals For The Jackson Area, Inc. is sponsoring “Pets For Jackson County Veterans” as a ‘thank you’ to local veterans The organization is offering the opportunity to adopt a dog, or 1-2 cats and will pay adoption fee(s) thanks to a grant from the Samuel Higby & Margaret H. Camp Fund.

The program ends June 15. Dogs and cats will be current on vaccines and spayed or neutered. Veterans should bring a driver’s license or Michigan ID showing they reside in Jackson County and a copy of DD214 paperwork or Jackson County Veterans ID card.

Pets are wonderful companions and are especially helpful for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The Jackson County Animal Shelter at 3370 Spring Arbor Road is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
