Finance Committee to begin budget hearings July 24th
Last Thursday, Oakland County executive administration presented County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s budget recommendations for Fiscal Years 2020-2022 at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners meeting. The board received the budget proposal on July 1st.
“This year’s budget will be a reflection of our values and priorities,” said Board Chairman David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak). “Today we begin the extensive process of reviewing our spending priorities, preserving fiscal responsibility, and making the right investments in people and our communities to create and expand opportunity for all.”
The Board of Commissioners will continue their focus on fiscal matters as budget hearings with individual county departments begin on July 24. The Board of Commissioners’ Finance Committee has scheduled five days of budget hearings during the months of July and August. These meetings are open to the public and will be held in Committee Room A at 1200 North Telegraph Road (Courthouse Building 12E) in Pontiac. The schedule is as follows:

“Budgets are very detailed and complex,” said Commissioner Helaine Zack (D-Huntington Woods) who is chair of the Finance Committee. “Our intensified financial review will ensure that the Commission can make the most informed decision possible when it votes to approve the budget.”
“The budget review process gives us an excellent chance to understand the spending priorities and projections of all county departments,” said Commissioner Gwen Markham (D-Novi) who is the majority vice chair of the Finance Committee.
The nine member Finance Committee is chaired by Commissioner Helaine Zack and includes Commissioners Gwen Markham, majority vice chair; Thomas F. Middleton (R-Clarkston), minority vice chair; Nancy L. Quarles (D-Southfield); Gary R. McGillivray (D-Madison Heights); Angela Powell (D-Pontiac); William Miller (D-Farmington); Christine Long (R-Commerce Township); and Eileen T. Kowall (R-White Lake).
The Finance Committee reviews and makes recommendations on the more than $900 million budget and all fiscal matters that come before the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
