The Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), a team comprising 11 agencies, celebrated its first six months of collaborative work on Oct. 17.
Organized by AWARE’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Lane Lewis, SART is committed to working together to limit the obstacles individuals face as they struggle to cope with the aftermath of sexual violence.
The team collaborates in order to better hold offenders accountable, help victims navigate the complicated maze of services available to them, and improve the effectiveness of those services.
By collaborating, providing training across disciplines, and conducting case reviews, they will ensure that victims receive a trauma-informed response.
The team includes representatives from: Adult Protective Services; AWARE, Inc.; Blackman-Leoni Township Police; Jackson County Child Advocacy Center; Jackson County Dispatch; Jackson County Health Department; Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office; Jackson County Sheriff’s Office; Jackson County Victim Rights Office; Jackson Police Department; Michigan State Police; and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) program at Henry Ford Allegiance Health
Other agencies and individuals who provide support or services to those who have experienced sexual violence in Jackson County are encouraged to contact Lewis for more information about partnering with the SART.
This project is supported by Grant No. 2017-GX-VA-0063 awarded to AWARE, Inc. by the Michigan Crime Victim Services Commission. The agreement award of $132,899 comes from the Federal Crime Victims Fund, established by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 administered by the Office of Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.
