Adoption Day celebrated

The Family Division of the Oakland County Circuit Court conducted its 17th Annual Celebration of Michigan Adoption Day program in the Board of Commissioners Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Pontiac. This event was held in conjunction with the statewide celebration of Adoption Day.  Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Anica Letica (second from left) and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan K. Cavanagh (second from right) were among the special guests at the event.  Happy to welcome them to the celebration were Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan (far left), presiding judge of the Family Division,  and Oakland County Circuit Court Chief Judge Shalina Kumar (far right).

In conjunction with Adoption Day, two awards were presented during the celebration.  The Sandra Silver Advocate for Children Award, named after the late Judge Sandra Silver who served in the Probate Court for 12 years, was presented to Berkley attorney Michael P. Dean (far left).  Mary E. Rossman (second from right), superintendent of the Michigan Children’s Institute, was the recipient of the Joan E. Young Champion of Children Award named after Judge Joan Young who retired in 2017 after serving on the Circuit and Probate benches for 28 years, 19 of which were in the Family Division.  Presenting the awards were Oakland County Circuit Court Judges Victoria Valentine (second from left) and Julie McDonald (far right).
