Mark W. Nelson launched his campaign on April 1 for District Court Judge, 14B District Court.
Nelson, who currently serves as Magistrate and Court Administrator for the Court whose jurisdiction is Ypsilanti Township, hopes to fill the seat currently held by Judge Charles Pope, who is retiring at the end of his second term.
Nelson was appointed Magistrate in 2009 by 14B District Court Judge Charles Pope and was named Court Administrator in 2012.
“With over 11 years of courtroom experience as 14B District Court Magistrate, a track record of creating new programs to address community issues and a lifelong commitment to Ypsilanti Township, I am uniquely qualified to serve as the Township’s next District Court Judge,” Nelson said. “I believe that experience matters, and no one running for this office has the level of on the job experience and knowledge that I have gained in my time with the Court. As judge, I will continue to make decisions that improve outcomes for Ypsilanti Township.”
Nelson is a lifelong resident of Ypsilanti and a 1989 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. He and his family have resided in Ypsilanti Township since 1999. Mark and his wife Kerri are proud parents of a 10-year-old son, who attends Lincoln Community Schools.
“If elected Judge, I will proudly build on the progress that my predecessors Judges Charles Pope and John B. Collins have made at 14B District Court and honor their legacies while working to ensure that every citizen’s contact with the Court is as positive as it can be,” said Nelson.
