Oakland County Executive David Coulter and county administration presented their budget recommendations for fiscal years 2021-2023 to the Board of Commissioners at its meeting on July 15. The Board received the budget proposal July 1.
“This budget proposal charts a course to improve public health, invest in people, protect our environment and help our economy recover,” Board Chairman David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak) said. “I applaud Executive Coulter for demonstrating how we can advance a bold progressive agenda, make people’s lives better and do so in a fiscally responsible way.”
The Finance and Infrastructure Committee will host budget hearings with county departments and other elected officials throughout the summer and will make a recommendation on the roughly $900 million annual budget proposal to the full Board by early September. The schedule will be made available to the public online at www.oakgov.com/boc.
“It’s now in the board’s hands to review, deliberate, and finish the budget planning for the next fiscal year and beyond,” said Commissioner Helaine Zack (D-Huntington Woods), Finance and Infrastructure Committee chair. “We look forward to reviewing proposed new initiatives, the county’s new economic development strategy, and applying new outcome-based budgeting practices going forward.”
The board is scheduled to vote to approve funding for the next fiscal year and a three-year budget at its meeting on September 23. The 2021 fiscal year begins October 1.
