Attorney Michael D. Hanchett recently joined Plunkett Cooney as a member of the law firm’s nationally recognized insurance coverage practice group.
An associate in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Hanchett represents some of the world’s leading property, auto, and casualty insurance companies. His coverage work primarily involves litigation filed under general liability insurance policies related to environmental contamination, property damage, arson, construction defect and automobile liability.
Prior to joining the firm, Hanchett developed a litigation practice with particular expertise in the areas of civil rights, municipal law and local government liability. He also previously served as outside counsel to several Michigan municipalities.
Named by Best Lawyers as one of its 2021 “Ones to Watch,” Hanchett is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Detroit Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, and American Bar Association. He also serves as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Berkley.
Hanchett received his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law in 2016 and his undergraduate degree from Ferris State University in 2013.
Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance Law Practice Group members provide consulting and litigation services in coverage disputes and regulatory proceedings involving a range of matters, including, but not limited to, claims of bad faith, toxic torts, personal and advertising injury, construction liability, reformation and rescission, professional liability and first-party property coverage. The firm’s insurance coverage practice spans numerous states and includes matters litigated in both state and federal courts.
