The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan's Violence Against Women Project will present a 2-day "Domestic Violence Trial Advocacy Training" on Thursday and Friday, December 10-22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. online via Zoom.
This training is designed for prosecutors or assistant prosecutors new to handling intimate partner violence crimes or those looking for a refresher if returning to handling those type of cases. Topics will include:
- Introduction to victim-centered, offender-focused prosecution
- Victim privacy and partnering with advocacy programs
- DV Laws and Common charging issues
- Evidentiary issues
- Direct and cross exam
- Expert witness testimony
- Perpetrator behavior and abuser accountability
The VAWP team at PAAM hopes to provide attendees with a training experience as close as possible to a live in-person training. This is not a webinar. Attendees are asked to treat this training as if it were an in-person training. Attendance is mandatory on both days and for both a.m. and p.m. sessions. Those who cannot clear their schedule for the two days of training are asked to register when it is offered at a later time when they can dedicate two full days to training.
Space is limited for this prosecutor only training. A waitlist will be available once registration is full for those interested in attending if there are cancellations. This training satisfies 12 hours of continuing legal education for purposes of PAAM's Best Practices Recommendations.
