The Employment Law Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association will present "The Politics of Employment Law: Are Employees Protected for Political Views and Speech?" as an online Zoom program on Tuesday, March 9, from 8 to 9 a.m.
This seminar will address the rights of employers and employees with regard to the employee's speech outside the workplace. Where is the line between what is protected speech and what is not? And, is there a difference between public and private employers? Employment attorneys-and lawyers facing these issues among their own staff-will learn whether speech (such as on social media) is protected and what types of adverse employment actions may be taken against employees for political speech or political viewpoints.
Speaking at the program will be Tony Paris of Maurice & Jane Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice; moderator Mary C. Aretha of Collins, Einhorn, Farrell PC; and moderator Ryanne E. Rizzo of Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Valitutti & Sherbrook.
Cost for the online program is is $25 for OCBA members; $15 for OCBA Business Court & Counsel members; $15 for OCBA new lawyers, paralegals, and students; and $35 for non-members.
