March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. This public proclamation was issued with the goal of urging Americans to provide individuals with developmental disabilities “the encouragement and opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential.”

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month’s campaign seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life, as well as awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.

The Oakland County Probate Court would like to salute all those individuals, family members, caregivers, agencies and court personnel who support and improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
