The Levin Center at Wayne Law and the Wayne State University Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice are sponsoring the webinar “Corrections and Re-Entry: Legislative and Community Efforts for a Successful Transition after Prison” on Friday, April 9, from 11 a.m. to 12;30 p.m. via Zoom.
The virtual panel discussion will focus on corrections and re-entry from prison to society, featuring legislative, academic, community perspectives. Panelists will address questions such as:
• How can a prisoner’s re-entry to the community be done successfully to better serve the interests and needs of both?
• What factors hinder or foster successful re-entry?
• What oversight efforts do state legislatures and agencies need to engage in to ensure re-entry programs fulfill their promises?
Attendees will hear thoughts on these questions from Corrections Ombudsman Keith Barber, Former Representative Joe Haveman from Hope Network, Darryl Woods Sr., and Professor Ruby Tapia as they discuss legislative oversight and community efforts to better ensure success for returning citizens. Each panelist will have a brief presentation followed by Q&A.
