Animal Law Section to look at 'Compassion Fatigue and Work/Life Balance'

The Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present the online program "Compassion Fatigue and Work/Life Balance" Thursday, april 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. via Zoom.

The online event will feature presenters Hilary Anne Hager (senior director of Outreach & Engagement) and Lindsay Hamrick (director of Shelter Outreach & Engagement) with the Humane Society of the United States.

This training will focus on the tools and strategies for building emotional resilience and working toward a strong work-life balance. The trainers will reflect on productive strategies implemented by individuals and organizations during crisis and how those can help lead to a more supportive and sustainable culture.

Topics to be covered include:

• The negative cost of caring is characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion leading to a diminished ability to empathize or feel compassion for others; presenter will help attendees identify compassion fatigue

• Tools to recognize compassion fatigue and ways to stay resilient

• Skills to maintain mental health and focus on self-care

• Ways to face the day-to-day challenges and the secondary stress created by animal welfare and protection work
