Wayne State University Law School will present a webinar on "State Legislative Oversight and the Pandemic: Conducting Oversight on Emergency Government Contracts" on Tuesday, May 4, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Emergencies require a rapid government response, often with little time to screen vendors or review contracts. This sometimes leads to overpriced or mismanaged state contracts. How can state legislatures fulfill their oversight duties to scrutinize state contracts and protect taxpayers in an emergency like the COVID-19 pandemic?
State legislators from across the country will gather for a panel discussion on legislative oversight of contracts signed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Webinar attendees will hear from a panel of leading elected officials across the country including State Senator Dan Johnson from Idaho, State Assembly member David Chiu from California, and State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh from Nebraska. This panel follows the Levin Center at Wayne Law's recent case study report on oversight of emergency contracts in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
There is no cost to attend the webinar. To register, visit https://rsvp.wayne.edu/state-legislative-oversight-and-the-pandemic. For additional information, email Margaux Laspeyres at levincenter@wayne.edu.
