Several Wayne State University Law School students and recent graduates were recognized with scholarships and awards for their academic achievements.
Mikaela Armstead, a rising third-year student and Damon J. Keith Scholar, received the Victoria A. Roberts Scholarship from the Wolverine Bar Foundation. She has served as president of the Black Law Students Association, is assistant editor of the Wayne Law Review, is a member of the Women’s Law Caucus, Sports and Entertainment Law Society, and Entrepreneurship and Business Law Society, and was junior member of Mock Trial. Armstead is working at Rossman PC this summer as a law clerk.
Jessica Davidova, a rising third-year student, was awarded the Charles J. Cohen Scholarship from the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan. Davidova is very active with local organizations, including serving on the board of governors of Hillel of Metropolitan Detroit, a fellow for the Detroit Center of Civil Discourse and editor of the Michigan International Lawyer. At the Law School, she is president of the International Law Student Association and a member of the Women’s Law Caucus and the Jewish Law Student Association. This summer, she is working as a law clerk for Osipov Bigelman PC and is a civil rights and technology policy legal intern for the Anti-Defamation League.
Taylor Janssen, Wayne Law class of 2021, received the Ralph M. Freeman Law School Scholarship administered by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Janssen was a member of the Moot Court program and competed with the Law School’s ABA National Appellate Advocacy team, and also was an executive note and comment editor for the Wayne Law Review.
Kelsey Postema, Wayne Law class of 2021, received the Student Achievement Award from the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She was nominated by Wayne Law professors for her academic excellence in advanced tax courses. Postema was a 2020-21 editor of the Wayne Law Review and a student chairperson for the Jaffe Transactional Law Competition.
Eberechi Ogbuaku, a rising second-year student, received the Damon J. Keith Scholarship from the Wolverine Bar Foundation. She was awarded the scholarship for emulating the type of commitment to social equality and combating racism demonstrated by Judge Damon J. Keith throughout his career. Ogbuaku will serve as the 2021-22 professional development chair for the Black Law Students Association. This summer, she is working at Honigman as a summer associate through the Summer Clerkship Program offered by the Wolverine Bar Association.
