The Patriot Week Foundation and Oakland County Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion and Law Related Education committees are pleased to host a panel of distinguished attorneys and judges to discuss the state of equal rights and protections in America today.
“Is America Fulfilling Its Promise of Equality? What Role and Responsibility Do Lawyers Have in Making Further Progress?” takes place on Tuesday, September 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 South Telegraph Road, Suite 100, in Bloomfield Hills.
“America has been facing very trying times in a variety of contexts, including the meaning of equality today as we scrutinize our past,” said Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren, Patriot Week co-founder and panel organizer. “This event will be an outstanding opportunity to hear from leaders in the law about how to renew the spirit of America so that we can better fulfill the promise of America for all of our people.”
American Bar Association President and Clark Hill PLC attorney Reginald M. Turner will join Oakland County Circuit Court Judges Yasmine Poles and Kwamé Rowe and attorney Robin B. Wagner from Pitt, McGehee, Palmer, Bonanni, & Rivers PC for a discussion on the recent rise in race-related attacks, similar trends, and the need to protect equality and diversity in society and the law. City of Detroit Corporation Counsel Lawrence Garcia will moderate, and Warren will offer introductory remarks. The law firm of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss will provide appetizers and beverages.
The event is part of Patriot Week, a program co-founded in 2009 by Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah to increase appreciation of America’s founding principles. It is anchored by the key dates of September 11 and Constitution Day on September 17.
The general public and members of the bar are invited to attend. Registration is recommended since seating is limited. To register, go to www.ocba.org/events by September 10.
