The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will host the Edward H. Rakow Luncheon with the Barbara J. Rom Award and Historical Society Presentation beginning at noon on Wednesday, November 17, at the Atheneum Hotel in Detroit.
After a long COVID-filled year, both of these organizations are pleased to welcome attendees to the independent, but conjoined programs.
The Court Historical Society speaker this year is Jack Lessenberry who has been a writer for many national and regional publications, including Vanity Fair, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Boston Globe. Currently, he is a contributing editor and columnist for the Toledo Blade, and occasionally other newspapers, and is the co-author of the book "The People's Lawyer, The Life and Times of Frank J. Kelley, the Nation's Longest-Serving Attorney General," published by Wayne State University Press, and the author of "Reason vs. Racism," the century-long saga of a newspaper family and race.
At the luncheon, Lessenberry will speak about the career of Judge Avern Cohn and will also entertain questions as part of his presentation.
The program will also largely feature the presentation of the Barbara J. Rom Award for Bankruptcy Excellence. The chapter established this award in 2012 to honor individuals who, like Barbara, have exhibited the highest level of overall excellence in the practice of bankruptcy law.
Cost for the luncheon is $45 for FBA members and $60 for non-members/guests. To register, visit https://fbamich.org and click on "events."
