In a ceremony held in conjunction with the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Law Section, the Washtenaw Association for Justice (WAJ) honored Ann Arbor attorney John Whitman with the Respected Defense Counsel Advocate Award. Michigan Supreme Court Justice Megan Cavanagh presented the award to Whitman.
The award is not given every year. It is reserved for issuance when a truly exceptional attorney merits the honor. WAJ gives the award to a member of the defense bar for the purpose of recognizing and honoring the individual's history of successful representation of clients and adherence to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
Whitman joined Garan, Lucow, Miller in the Ann Arbor office in 1993 and has been the managing shareholder for that office since 2008. A graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Whitman earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1985.
Whitman has practiced insurance defense law for more than 30-years, and tried more than 125 cases to verdict. He serves as a neutral mediator for private facilitation in cases throughout Michigan.
Whitman is a frequent speaker for ICLE; runs the Garan, Lucow, Miller, Deposition and Trial Boot Camp training series; and has been invited to speak at The Brain Injury Legal Conference as well as numerous insurance and legal training programs.
