Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is recognizing law enforcement officials for their dedication to the communities they serve as she travels around the state. Nessel’s Above and Beyond Award will go to officers and other personnel who are nominated for their efforts by their departments.
Early last week, Nessel honored Portage Officer David Barker for saving a person who was suicidal last year. Last Thursday, she recognized two members of the Northville Township Police Department for their work in assisting agencies in the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC) accreditation process. Public Safety Manager Lisa Cupp and Lt. Christopher Rowley are accreditation managers who help agencies across the state become an accredited agency through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police.
The week prior, Nessel recognized Monroe County Corrections Officer Cassandra Tremonti. Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough nominated Tremonti for going above and beyond in her role on a daily basis and being known for her compassion with not only her colleagues, but the jail inmates as well.
Earlier this month, Nessel honored Dearborn Heights Officers Ahmad Mazloum and Ali Hammoud. The officers responded to a call and conducted a welfare check on a woman who was being held against her will. They were also able to assist with translation services.
“Law enforcement officers are our real-life heroes and often place themselves at risk in order to protect the members of the communities they serve,” Nessel said. “There are members of law enforcement that show exceptional bravery in the execution of their duties and, as such, are deserving of special recognition. I was proud to honor those who have gone above and beyond for their departments and look forward to meeting other exemplary officers across Michigan.”
