The first annual Summit to Reduce Violence was held on April 8 at the American 1 Event Center in Jackson. The summit—a collaborative effort between the Jackson County Prosecutors Office, the Jackson Juneteenth Executive Committee, the City of Jackson Police Department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson College, Baker College, and Spring Arbor University—will produce five workgroups that will meet quarterly to continue to work towards the goals established at this summit.

In 2020 Jackson was one of 12 cities in the U.S. to receive a Project Guardian grant because of high numbers of gun-related homicides per capita.
