Well-Being Week in Law is the first full week of May this year, part of a nationwide effort to promote the mental health and well-being of members of the legal profession. Celebrated as part of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Well-Being Week in Law is an opportunity for members of Michigan's legal community to learn more about resources available and how to support their own well-being.
Self-care is especially important for lawyers and law students. According to a 2016 study by the American Bar Association Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs and Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, lawyers suffer from higher-than-average rates of problem drinking, depression, anxiety, and stress.
The Institute for Well-Being in Law was created in 2020 to focus on establishing health and well-being through advocacy, research, education, technical and resource support, and more. The State Bar of Michigan will share resources and information daily on its social media channels to help raise awareness of Well-Being Week in Law.
