Wayne State University Law School's Student Board of Governors raised $5,425 as part of its 2022 Ambulance Chase 5K to support the Wayne Law Public Interest Law Fund (PILF). PILF provides financial support to Wayne Law students pursuing opportunities with public interest-focused organizations.
"Many of these positions are unpaid or low-paying, so the PILF eases the financial burdens these students face to get valuable experience and help others in the community," said Andrew Nurmi, a rising 3L student, and secretary of the Student Board of Governors.
More than 100 people participated in the Ambulance Chase 5K on Saturday, April 2, which took place on Wayne State University's campus in Detroit. The first-place finisher was Zack Thomas, a 2L student who came in with a 16:50 5K time.
The Student Board of Governors brought back the Ambulance Chase 5K after a multi-year hiatus. Medals were awarded to nine top-placing finishers from student, alumni, and faculty and staff categories.
"It was an incredible event, made possible by incredible contributions from our sponsors and our participants, as well as the helping hands of so many members of our Student Board of Governors," Nurmi added. "I'd like to especially thank our SBG President, Lindsey LaForest, who was instrumental in bringing this event to life."
The presenting sponsor was Michigan law firm Kitch, Drutchas, Wagner, Valitutti, & Sherbrook which donated $2,000 to support PILF.
