A former prosecutor in Shiawassee County has admitted to arriving to work under the influence of alcohol last year, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Wednesday.
In November, former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (APA) Christopher Brown was arraigned on the following:
• One count of operating while intoxicated, a 93-day misdemeanor.
• Two counts of possession of a firearm by a person under the influence, also 93-day misdemeanors.
At the beginning of August, Brown arrived to work late and admitted to being under the influence. A subsequent blood draw indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .143 grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood. A search of his vehicle then revealed Brown had two loaded unlocked firearms with him.
Monday, Brown pleaded to the following before Shiawassee County 66th District Court Judge Ward L. Clarkson:
• One count of operating while visibly impaired, a 93-day misdemeanor.
• One count of possession of a firearm by a person under the influence, also a 93-day misdemeanor.
Brown’s concealed pistol license will be revoked as a result of the conviction.
“My office remains committed to holding accountable anyone who violates the laws they are sworn to uphold,” Nessel said.
Brown has since relocated out of state. During Monday’s hearing, Clarkson acknowledged that the State Bar of Michigan already initiated an intensive probation process and sentenced Brown to pay $1,500
in fines.
