Lily Batchelder, assistant secretary for tax policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, will be the keynote speaker at the American Bar Association Hybrid 2022 May Tax Meeting to be held May 12-14.
The conference, sponsored by the ABA Section of Taxation, will convene in person at the Marriott Marquis in Washington and will offer many sessions virtually.
Batchelder will speak at the section luncheon and plenary session on Saturday, May 14, at 11:45 a.m. Before joining Treasury, Batchelder was professor of law and public policy at NYU School of Law and an affiliated professor at the NYU Wagner School of Public Service. From 2010 to 2015, she served as deputy director of the White House National Economic Council and deputy assistant to the president, and as majority chief tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. Her research and teaching have focused on personal income taxes, business tax reform, wealth transfer taxes, retirement savings policy and social insurance.
After Batchelder’s keynote, the conference ends with a roundtable discussion on “Tax Data Transparency: Changes Coming to a Post-Pandemic Tax Code?” featuring Brooklyn Law School professor Steven Dean; tax policy expert Mark Mazur; UC Berkeley associate professor of economics Danny Yagan; and moderator Caroline Bruckner, managing director of the Kogod Tax Policy Center at American University.
