Attorney to discuss 'IP Brand Management' at ACC-MI seminar June 29

The Association of Corporate Counsel, Michigan Chapter, will present the seminar "Intellectual Property Brand Management" sponsored by Howard & Howard on Wednesday, June 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Birmingham Country Club, 1750 Saxon Drive.

Brand management requires strategic intellectual property law considerations in addition to business considerations. Howard & Howard representative Jake Grove's presentation will focus on on some key considerations that arise in connection with any brand or any portfolio of brands as the business matures:

• Getting involved early on with branding selections working with the Marketing Department to adopt new brands

• Strategic registration and maintenance, and weeding out unneeded registrations

• Handling brand updates and refreshes with an eye toward optimizing priority and protection

• Enforcement in the internet age, including enforcement on Amazon and other internet platforms including social media

• Domain names

• Addressing Counterfeiters

• Addressing potential dilutive uses

Grove's core practice area is intellectual property litigation, with approximately 30 years of experience in patent, trademark, copyright, and software cases. He has acted as lead counsel for some of the largest corporations in the world, for individuals, and for clients of all sizes in between. Additionally, Grove has been a professor of Trademark Law and Unfair Competition at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law since 2008. He has also written several books and articles on intellectual property topics, and has lobbied Congress on behalf of clients for patent law reform. Grove has also served in leadership roles within the State Bar of Michigan IP Section, and the Michigan IP Inn of Court.
