A woman convicted of embezzling thousands from a 90-year-old woman in Montcalm County received additional jail time for resisting arrest, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Tuesday.
In March, Teri Miller and her co-defendants were sentenced in connection with stealing from a woman Miller was hired to care for – including accessing the victim’s bank account and using a credit card to obtain cash advances, all without the victim’s consent.
Miller received 57 months to 15 years in prison on the embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000 conviction, as well as 14 months to five years on the embezzlement of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000 count. The sentences are to be served consecutively for a total of 71 months’ incarceration. She was also ordered to pay $97,798 in restitution to the victim’s estate.
Last month, Miller pleaded guilty as charged to resisting or obstructing a police officer, which stemmed from her arrest on the embezzlement charges.
Judge Ronald J. Schafer sentenced Miller to one year incarceration, with credit for 29 days served, to be served concurrently with her other sentences.
“Those who attempt to harm law enforcement or evade justice in the course of officers executing their duties will be held accountable,” said Nessel.
