As the law enforcement community grapples with unconscious bias and its impact, the issue is also increasingly becoming a factor in subsequent legal actions. Attorneys can learn more about the legal implications of police interactions in an upcoming Race and Justice Forum hosted by the State Bar of Michigan.
"Law Enforcement and Bias Awareness: What Lawyers Should Know" will be a virtual forum from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 27. It is free and open to all members of Michigan's legal community.
The discussion will focus on what some jurisdictions are doing to improve bias awareness and community relations. Kalamazoo Assistant Police Chief Victor Green will share information on some of the work being done to have a positive impact.
Race and Justice Forums are also open to the public. The Zoom link for the forum will be provided at registration. To register, visit https://bit.ly/3aRqQbE.
