Oakland County clerk hails staff, election workers for another successful absentee voter counting board

In the wake of last Tuesday’s statewide primary election, Oakland County Clerk/ Register of Deeds Lisa Brown hailed the success of Oakland County’s Consolidated Absent Voter Counting Board, the largest in the state, which processed and tabulated nearly 60,000 absentee ballots for nineteen Oakland County municipalities.

“I’m proud of and grateful for my staff and the almost 200 election workers who spent a long Election Day making this collaborative effort a success,” said Brown. “Thanks to their hard work and rigorous attention to detail, we were able to provide unofficial election results to the public at 8:05 p.m. for the nineteen communities that contracted with us.”

Over seven elections in two years, the Oakland County team has processed and tabulated over three hundred thousand absentee ballots on behalf of local communities. Earlier this year, Brown and the Oakland County Clerk’s Office were recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) with a 2022 NACo Achievement Award for the innovative Consolidated Absent Voter Counting Board.

“Consolidating absentee ballot tabulation has increased transparency and allowed for heightened scrutiny by public observers who are able to easily view the adjudication process for multiple communities,” Brown said. “Local municipalities that partner with us have seen not only a cost savings but also quicker results on election night. But most importantly, the program helps boost the level of citizen participation in and understanding of the elections process.”
