@Regular Headline:Prevention of human trafficking examined in MJI webinar, Sept. 12

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare Services (CWS) will present a webinar on "Working Together as Partners of Excellence for Better Identification and Prevention of Human Trafficking" Monday, September 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
The prevalence of human trafficking has reached alarming levels in the United States. This presentation will address how everyone has a role in detecting and identifying suspected victims of human trafficking. The presentation will use a case-based approach to encourage appropriate language, a trauma sensitive approach, and working together as partners to prevent further victimization.
Speaking at the webinar will be Dr. Dena Nazer, medical director, Kids-TALK Children's Advocacy Center; associate professor, Wayne State University.
This presentation will help attendees meet the requirement of licensing in the State of Michigan through:
- Understanding the types and venues of human trafficking in Michigan and the United States.
- Identifying victims of human trafficking in various settings.
- Identifying the warning signs of human trafficking for adults and minors.
- Identifying resources for reporting when suspecting a child is a victim of human trafficking.
- Dispelling myths, unlearning, and relearning together throughout this talk
This training is intended for all child welfare professionals including jurists, court staff, prosecutors, attorneys, Lawyer-Guardians Ad Litem, CPS and foster care workers, tribes, private agencies, law enforcement, medical professionals, mental health providers, education professionals, and Foster Care Review Board members.
