Panel to discuss wrongful convictions September 28 at law school

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will conduct a panel discussion as a kickoff to Wrongful Conviction Day on Wednesday, September 28, from 4 to 5:50 p.m. at the Detroit Mercy Law atrium, 651 E. Jefferson in Detroit.

This panel discussion will feature Valerie Newman, director, Detroit Mercy Law Conviction Integrity Clinic; Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Kevin Cox; attorney Gabi Silver; and exoneree Richard Phillips. This panel will discuss the experience of Phillips who was convicted in Detroit in 1972.  Forty-five years later his conviction was vacated in March 2017.
