Mediation is one of several appropriate dispute resolution processes recommended by the American Bar Association, which will recognize 2022 Mediation Week in a virtual event, “Winning from the Beginning,” at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19. Sponsored by the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, the annual event celebrates the growth of mediation as a tool that offers early resolution options, often before litigation.
While early mediations are an effective dispute resolution tool, they are sometimes unsuccessful because the parties and their respective counsel and mediators are not adequately prepared to confidently evaluate or competently propose viable early resolution options. Top practitioners in the field will offer critical strategies to better prepare for and improve the odds for a successful early mediation.
Speaking at the virtual event will be:
• Theresa Bevilacqua, partner, Dorsey & Whitney LLP
• Lucy Clark Dougherty, general counsel and secretary, Polaris Inc.
• Mary Cullen, attorney, mediator, arbitrator and founder, The Cullen Group, LLC
• Noah J. Hanft, mediator, arbitrator, ADR advisor, AcumenADR LLC
• Chauntelle R. Wood, senior associate, Baker Botts
• Felicia Harris Hoss, attorney mediator arbitrator, Harris Hoss PLLC
• Scott Levin, chief peacekeeper and founding partner, San Diego Divorce Mediation & Family Law
• Ellie K. Vilendrer, attorney, arbitrator, mediator, Vilendrer Law PC
Cost for “Winning from the Beginning” is $25 for ABA members and $50 for non-members. To register for the online event, visit https://bit.ly/3CUvl0H. For additional information, email Melissa Buckley at melissa.buckley@americanbar.org.
