Attorney discusses Copyright Claims Board at MIPLA virtual event

The Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) will host a virtual event on Tuesday, February 7, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. via Zoom.  Speaker Kristyn C. Webb  will discuss the “Copyright Claims Board.”

The Copyright Claims Board (CCB) was created by legislation tucked inside one of the COVID-19 relief bills in 2020 and is meant to provide copyright owners with a cost-effective alternative to litigation in federal district court. It just began hearing cases a few weeks back in June 2022. There is a good deal of information practitioners should know about the process for bringing claims and opting out of proceedings.

Webb is an associate attorney at Fishman Stewart in the copyright, trademark, and litigation practice groups. She recently completed her postgraduate diploma in US, UK, and EU Copyright Law at King’s College London, and is writing her dissertation for her Master’s Degree on the newly created CCB.

The meeting agenda includes:

• 11:45 a.m. to noon—Networking
• Noon to 1:15 p.m.—Presentation
