Drug Summit 7, co-hosted by the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Drug Free Jackson, was held March 8 at the American 1 Event Center. The free event, open to the public and attended by about 300 people, focused on the devastating problem of heroin and prescription opioid abuse in the Jackson community and in particular, the emergence of fentanyl and its connection with drug overdose deaths in the community, state and country.

Michigan State Police Lieutenant Ben Garrison spoke about emerging drug trends and the impact of fentanyl, especially in Jackson County.

The Summit included several panel discussions involving those in recovery, including a panel from Andy’s Place; members from Families for Hope; and a youth panel.

Mike Hirst from Andy’s Angels spoke about Andy’s Place, providing transitional housing for those involved in the Judge Susan Jordan’s Adult Recovery Court.

Providers offered free information and resources about recovery from substance abuse.
