As part of its “Court Community Connections” program, the Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral argument in People of MI v Candace Guyton, Case No. 163700, at the Cheboygan Opera House, 403 N. Huron St. in Cheboygan, on Wednesday, April 26, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (argument will begin promptly at 10 a.m.).
In addition to hearing oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, justices and staff travel to communities statewide as part of the “Court Community Connections” program, which the court started as a public education program aimed primarily at high school students. This will be the 27th time the court has traveled to hear a case at another location.
Following oral argument, MSC Chief Commissioner Daniel Brubaker will lead a debriefing session for students that includes the appellant and appellee attorneys.
Along with Michigan Supreme Court justices, Cheboygan County judges, and Presque Isle County judges, students from the following schools will be participating in the 27th “Court Community Connections” program:
• Bishop Baraga Catholic School
• Cheboygan High School
• Cornerstone Christian School
• Inland Lakes Secondary School
• Inverness Academy
• LaSalle High School
• Mackinaw City High School
• Northern Michigan Christian Academy

• Pellston Middle / High School
• Presque Isle Academy

Oral argument can also be viewed live at www.facebook.com/thejewelofthenorth. Online streaming of oral arguments and other hearings will begin shortly before hearings begin; audio will be muted until the justices take their seats.
