Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Danny Werfel will be the keynote luncheon speaker at the American Bar Association 2023 May Tax Meeting to be held May 4-6 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. The conference, sponsored by the ABA Section of Taxation, attracts the country’s leading tax attorneys and government officials.
Werfel, who will speak on Saturday, May 6, serves as the 50th commissioner of the IRS presiding over the nation’s tax system. He has a range of experience inside and outside of government. Prior to being named commissioner, he was the global leader of Boston Consulting Group’s Public Sector practice where he worked with government agencies worldwide on finances, service delivery, transformation plans and risk-assessment initiatives. Before joining BCG, he served in the federal government for more than 15 years, including as acting commissioner of the IRS.
Natasha Sarin, former deputy assistant secretary for economic policy and counselor to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, will join Werfel to discuss the IRS’ Strategic Operating Plan, an ambitious effort to transform the tax agency and dramatically improve service to taxpayers and the nation during the next decade.
More than 100 sessions will cover a host of topics that range from employee benefits and tax policy to estate and gift taxes and cryptocurrency. They include:
