Webinar looks at 'Analyzing Cell Phone Extractions'

The State Appellate Defender Office, the Criminal Defense Resource Center, and the West Michigan Regional Investigator Association will present a webinar on "Analyzing Cell Phone Extractions" Thursday, July 6, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Police and prosecutors have come to rely heavily on various forms of digital evidence to investigate and later prove the government's case at trial. This presentation will focus on ways the government uses cell phone extractions to bolster their case (while simultaneously obfuscating data that could help the defense) and simple strategies defense teams can use to fight back. Attendees will learn how evidence can be limited prior to the defense receiving it, how to argue for expanded searches when exonerating or impeachable evidence may exist, and all the various ways defense teams can aggressively use cell phone extractions to their legal advantage.

This virtual lunchtime training on "Analyzing Cell Phone Extractions" will feature Molly Gilbert from the King County (Washington) Department of Public Defense.
