Sterling Heights man sentenced for murder

On Wednesday, 33 year-old David Kanouna of Sterling Heights was sentenced for murder after a shooting at a Sterling Heights business.

On June 13, 2020, Kanouna shot and killed Sharaz Hussain at The Barber Co. in Sterling Heights. He pled guilty to Second Degree Murder (life felony), and felony firearm (two year mandatory felony).

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Edward Servitto sentenced David Kanouna to 22.5-50 years for Second Degree Murder and two years for Felony Firearm.  These sentences are to be served consecutively at the Michigan Department of Corrections.

“We cannot bring back the life that was lost, but we can honor the victim’s memory by ensuring that the consequences of such heinous acts are met with unyielding resolve.

This case serves as a somber reminder that we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice and work towards a safer community, where every individual’s life and security is protected,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
