Seminar outlines succession planning best practices

The State Bar of Michigan's Practice Management Resource Center will host the virtual seminar "Successful Succession: How to Value, Sell, and Purchase a Law Firm in a Post-Pandemic World" on Thursday, September 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. The session will include how to value a law practice and options to consider when selling a practice as well as information on how to prepare for a sale, what to expect after buying/selling, and developing contingency plans.

The webinar will feature Jeremy E. Poock, who specializes in law firm sales, and Margaret T. Burke, who specializes in law firm management including succession planning.

Poock is the founder and president of Senior Attorney Match Inc. which designs and implements law firm sales for attorneys who have practiced 30+ years. He spent more than a decade as a Massachusetts business law attorney with a focus on representing buyers and sellers in the sales of small businesses before founding Senior Attorney Match in 2013.

Burke is founder and president of MB Law Firm Consulting, LLC. A certified legal manager, she has decades of experience working with lawyers, partners, and small to midsize law firms and specializes in law firm management, strategy, and finance.
