The State Appellate Defender Office and Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System will conduct the “Appellate Defender Annual Fall Training” on October 13, 18, and 24, via Zoom. These trainings are set up “meeting” style where attendees will have the opportunity to have their camera and microphone on to increase learning and engagement. Attendees may choose to attend all or some of the below programming. The training schedule includes:

• Noon-1 p.m., Impact of Race on Client and Public Defender Relationships, with Ieshaah Murphy
• 3-4 p.m., MI > US: Improving Legal Protections for the Accused Using Michigan’s Constitution, with Sofia Nelson and Erin Van Campen

• 9:30-10:30 a.m., Life and Policies in the MDOC, with Jessica Zimbelman and Lorenzo Harrell
• 10:45-11:45 a.m., Interlocutory Appeals, with Kathy Swedlow
• Noon-1 p.m., Defending Grants of Parole, with Maya Menlo and Jackie Ouvry
• 2-3 p.m., Leveraging 6.248 to Reinstate Claims and Restore Rights, with Brad Hall
