The Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present “The Michigan General Durable Power of Attorney Webinar” on Friday, November 10, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
A GDPA is an essential, personal legal document. Issues covered in this webinar include the following:
• In the wake of alleged, recent, large-scale embezzlements perpetrated by counsel, this webinar will consider GDPAs in light of Michigan fiduciary law, including reliance upon GDPAs by banks and other third parties.
• In light of recent pronouncements by the Internal Revenue Service, the webinar will receive the use of GDPAs in Federal tax practice.
• The webinar will consider GDPAs in light of the looming Uniform Power of Appointment Act.
Webinar attendees will be provided a monograph of legal authorities, as well as a template GDPA.
Presenter Stephen J. Dunn practices federal tax controversies, foreign accounts compliance, and estate planning and administration. His law firm, Dunn Counsel PLC, is based in Troy. A frequent speaker and writer, he has had articles published in Tax Notes, ABA Tax Times, and his own blog, Foreign Accounts Compliance, among other publications. Dunn is vice-chair of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law’s International Tax Planning Committee, and Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section’s Federal Tax Committee.
Dunn earned his B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Aquinas College and his law degrees from Notre Dame Law School and Washington University in St Louis. He has practiced law for 38 years. Before that, Dunn was an auditor with Ernst & Ernst (now EY), where he earned the Michigan CPA designation.
