Applicants sought for new Materials Management Planning Committee

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for 11 individuals to serve on the newly established Materials Management Planning Committee. Those who are selected will serve a five-year term ending on December 31, 2028.

The Materials Management Planning Committee will replace the county’s Solid Waste Planning Committee as required by Michigan law.

The Materials Management Planning Committee will oversee the implementation of the county’s Materials Management Plan, a state-mandated plan that assures adequate materials management capacity for all non-hazardous solid waste generated in the county. The state of Michigan recently updated its statute with changes that focus on sustainable materials management approaches, such as recycling and composting, instead of primarily disposal, and this new committee will address those changes.

The Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for the following categories:

• Solid waste disposal facility operator
• Waste hauler
• Materials recovery facility operator
• Compost or anaerobic digestor facility operator
• Waste diversion, reuse, or reduction facility operator
• Environmental interest group representative
• County elected official
• Township elected official
• City or village elected official
• Operator of a business that generates a managed material
• Member of a regional planning agency (SEMCOG)

Those interested can apply at forms.oakgov.com/79. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31.
