Deputy Oakland County executive honored as outstanding alumni

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announces that Michigan State University's College of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) Alumni Board has selected Deputy County Executive and Chief Information Officer Phil Bertolini to receive their Outstanding Alumni Award. "I have five deputies that report directly to me. But Phil is the go-to guy, not only on technology, but on meeting with the many disparate groups who have business or issues with Oakland County," Patterson says. "I can honestly say that in the years Phil has been in my employ he has never ducked a challenge, has never said no, and has cheerfully asked for more assignments." The CAS Alumni Board reviewed about two dozen nominations for this distinguished recognition. Nominees typically have two or three letters of support, Bertolini had eight. The award spotlights "exceptional achievement in the field of communication." Past CAS Outstanding Alumni Award recipients include MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis and Dateline NBC's Chris Hansen. Bertolini, a 1985 graduate of Michigan State University, will participate in the CAS commencement ceremony on May 8, 2010. Wearing full regalia, he will take the stage to receive this honor. On May 9, 2010 he will participate in a formal award ceremony at MSU's Kellogg Center. Bertolini oversees Oakland County's nationally-recognized and award-winning Information Technology Department, among other duties.
