WLAM serves meal to serve community

by Cynthia Price Legal News The West Michigan chapter of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) is active and visible, particularly with their annual Judges vs. Women Lawyers charity softball game. The group's recent decision to start a service subcommittee resulted in a commitment to do at least one community service stint per "semester," as stated by its chair, Danielle Hall of Cooley Law School, who is also immediate past president of the full chapter. Six female lawyers gave up their Thanksgiving Eves last week to serve up some compassion and a hot meal at Mel Trotter Ministries in the Heartside District of Grand Rapids. Amy VanDyke and Nikole Canute, also the chapter vice-president, shown at left, were two of the six. The remaining women were Leslie Cameron Curry of Legal Aid of Western Michigan, Linda Jo Carron of Knape and Vogt Manufacturing and Tracy Cordes, clerk of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. The WLAM lawyers helped prepare the meal and served 69 women and 52 men with smiles. According to its web site, "Mel Trotter Ministries exists to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ toward the hungry, homeless and hurting of the Grand Rapids area." Published: Wed, Dec 2, 2009
