U-M Law School seeks attorneys to serve as judges in January 30 competition

The Office of Student Services at the University of Michigan Law School is seeking attorneys to serve as judges for the Intra-Law School Client Counseling Competition on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with lunch immediately following. The competition will be held in Hutchins Hall at the Law School. This year's competition topic is ''white collar crime," but you do not need to have expertise in this area to judge the competition; organizers will send you ahead of time all the information you need to judge the competition well. The competition gives students the opportunity to conduct three mock initial interviews with fictional clients, whose roles will be played by undergraduate students. Practicing lawyers serving as judges observe these interviews and then provide constructive feedback to the students. Each judge will watch, score and give feedback to competing students at least two times. The more judges who participate, the better the experience will be for the students. The winners of the intra-school competition will compete in the American Bar Association's Regional Competition. A complete simulation packet, the ABA Judging Standards, directions to the Law School and other materials will be e-emailed to you in advance. Parking permits also will be provided. Judges will attend a briefing meeting when they arrive on the 30th and a light breakfast will be available.
