State Bar's Domestic Violence Committee sponsors event, March 15

Sarah Buel, a nationally recognized speaker and advocate for victims of domestic violence, will lead a three-hour event titled "Witness Tampering in Civil and Criminal Intimate Partner Violence Cases" sponsored by the State Bar of Michigan's Domestic Violence Committee. The event will take place Monday, March 15, in Ann Arbor, and it will be broadcast live in Lansing, Grand Rapids and Auburn Hills. Buel, previously a victim of domestic violence, is a clinical professor at the University of Texas Law School. She has spent 32 years working with battered women, abused children and juveniles within the legal system. Her topics will include barriers to escaping domestic violence, perpetrator accountability, and compassionate representation. Buel will be speaking from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 15, in Room 114 at Cooley Law School, 3475 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor. The training will be simulcast live to three other Cooley Law School locations: Room 309, Cooley Center, 300 S. Capitol Ave., Lansing; Room 305, 111 Commerce Ave. SW, Grand Rapids, and Room 100, 2630 Featherstone Rd., Auburn Hills. The training is free. Registration is encouraged, however drop-ins are welcome.
