Jilted wife sues hubby's girlfriend
The Daily Record Newswire
The wife of a man who cheated on her with another woman has settled the alienation of affection case against her husband's girlfriend for $25,000.
Debbie Newton Bivins married Kirk Randall Bivins in 1993 and the couple separated in December 2008.
As originally reported in ''Alienation of affection suit settled for $25,000'' by the Gaston Gazette, Debbie filed suit against Laura Rose Etheridge in April 2009.
Debbie claimed that Etheridge and her husband became "romantically involved" and met for trysts, including at the Bivins' home when Debbie was away with their child.
The case was set for trial last week but proceedings were put on hold after the parties announced their settlement agreement.
Alienation of affection lawsuitsare allowed in only a handful of states, such as Illinois and North Carolina.
