Jail can wait for 'Tractor' Traylor in tax fraud case

DETROIT (AP) -- Former University of Michigan basketball star Robert Traylor can play in Turkey before serving 60 days in jail in a tax case. U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn in Detroit says Traylor must report by June 1, or later if his Turkish team makes the playoffs. Traylor was sentenced to jail last year after flunking conditions of supervised release related to a 2007 income tax case. At the time, the judge delayed the sentence so Traylor could play for an Italian team. It wasn't a good experience: Traylor didn't get paid. He declined to comment outside court last Friday. In 2007, Traylor admitted reporting false losses on his 2004 tax return. Traylor played for four NBA teams after the end of his Michigan career in 1998. Published: Tue, Mar 2, 2010
