NOVI (AP) -- A 25-year-old Oakland County woman accused of stabbing her 1-year-old son several times with a butcher knife has been found incompetent to stand trial.
District Judge Robert Bondy in Novi last Wednesday ordered Kristy Leigh DeHuff to be transferred to a psychiatric facility near Ypsilanti for treatment.
Defense lawyer Richard A. Foster said last Friday that DeHuff suffered a psychotic breakdown before the attack. He said he's hopeful that with treatment she'll regain competency and be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Authorities said DeHuff stabbed her son Feb. 4 at their Commerce Township home. The baby's father stopped the attack.
The child underwent surgery. Family members tell WJBK-TV that he is recovering well.
