The Michigan Chamber of Commerce's best-selling publication, "Employment Law Handbook," is now available to Michigan employers. Authored by labor and employment lawyers at Miller Canfield, the guide is the only product of its kind written specifically for Michigan employers of all sizes, addressing recent state and federal employment law updates to day-to-day issues.
Since 1995, thousands of Michigan employers have relied on the "Employment Law Handbook" for timely advice and forms. Changes and updates that are covered in this year's Handbook include:
• A comprehensive overview of Michigan's new workplace smoking ban.
• An overview of 2009 FMLA regulations and military-related family leave amendments.
• The ADA Amendments Act and proposed new regulations.
• Discussion of GINA (Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act), which went into effect November 21, 2009.
• Discussion of the 2009 federal stimulus, including expanded COBRA subsidies and unemployment benefits extensions.
"Labor and employment laws are constantly changing and many of the rules and regulations found in the handbook are specific to Michigan employers," said James B. Thelen, editor of the "Employment Law Handbook" and labor and employment lawyer at Miller Canfield.
The cost of the handbook kit is $199 plus shipping and tax. This year's handbook also comes with 12 months of free access to HR Michigan (www.hrmichigan.com), a value of $199. HR Michigan serves as an additional resource for tough HR questions and includes access to business forms and checklists, as well as access to background checks and personality tests for prospective employees.
For information about the handbook or to order a copy, call the Michigan Chamber of Commerce at 1-888-763-0514 ext. 204.
